Nominations and Awards
Nominate Your Colleagues for the NLA and Chapter Boards of Directors
The Nominating Committees of the NLA Board of Directors and the regional Boards of Directors are seeking nominations. Each year, the term of approximately one-third of each Board expires. New Board members are elected each May at the NLA Annual Scientific Sessions. Please go to http://www.lipid.org/about/committees to nominate a colleague.

The NLA has established three different awards to recognize outstanding contributions to clinical lipidology. We have many talented and accomplished professionals in our ranks, and we always look to recognize and applaud their commitment to medicine, research, and the highest levels of patient care. The awards for Fellow of the NLA, Distinguished Achievement, and Honorary Lifetime Membership will be presented at the Annual Sessions in Scottsdale, Arizona. NLA 2012 Spring Clinical Lipid Update—Register Today
Register now for the NLA Spring Clinical Lipid Update (CLU), to be held March 9-11 in San Diego, California. Featuring the theme “Navigating Lipid Management Challenges: Full Speed Ahead,” this CLU will discuss the latest research, guidelines, controversies, and clinical strategies for effective prevention of cardiovascular disease. Call for Abstracts Open for 2012 Annual Scientific Sessions
Submit your research for presentation as a poster during the NLA Annual Scientific Sessions in Scottsdale, AZ. The deadline for poster abstract submissions is April 2, 2012. All accepted poster abstracts will be published in the May/June 2012 issue of the Journal of Clinical Lipidology. In addition to posters being displayed at the meeting during the designated hours, selected abstract submissions will be identified for an oral presentation session on Saturday, June 2. Lipid Insights Webcast on AIM-HIGH: Should We Continue to AIM-High or Set our Sights Low?
The release of data from the AIM-HIGH trial left clinicians asking questions about the role of niacin therapy and increasing high-density lipoprotein cholesterol in patients at low-density lipoprotein goal. William Boden, MD, and James Falko, MD, discussed the implications of the final trial results and the potential impact on clinical practice during the NLA's latest Lipid Insights webcast held on December, 15, 2011. Young Investigator Award Program to Launch at 2012 Annual Scientific Sessions
Lead presenters with accepted abstracts who are Young Investigators (in-training students, residents, and fellows or members in practice for <5 years) will receive complimentary registration to the NLA Annual Scientific Sessions. Submissions will also be eligible for the NLA Young Investigator Award∗ with cash awards of $1000 for first place and $500 for second and third place. The first-place winner also will be selected to give an oral presentation during the sessions.
NLA Joins AMA Specialty and Service Society
The NLA is excited to announce that it recently was accepted into the Specialty and Service Society (SSS), the largest caucus in the American Medical Association (AMA) House of Delegates. The SSS comprises more than 130 national medical societies, military service groups, and professional interest medical associations. An organization must first be represented in the SSS for 3 years before they are eligible to seek admission to the AMA's House of Delegates. Please stay tuned for more details.
